Good budget hotel near airport

Country forums / Central America / Panama

We have a one night layover in Panama City on our way to Costa Rica.
Does anyone know of a good budget hotel near the airport? We are a couple travelling with our 3-year old son.

Thanks!

Check Trip Advisor...easy peasy.

This isn't what you asked for, but Sleeping in Airports has other useful info, including some hotel reservations:
http://www.sleepinginairports.net/casa/panamacity.htm
BUT they don't seem to list anything interesting. I'm leaving the link because you may want to add it to your travel info sources for another trip, or to share with someone else.
But before you go wander through the morass that is TA's listings, stay on site and check out what Lonely Planet provides:

Here's a link to the info on taking a taxi from the airport:
http://www.tocumenpanama.aero/index.php?cccpage=transporte_publico
and that's the only public transport they list...no bus service. There seems to be a hotel shuttle (first hotel listed on the Sleeping site) but it must be provided by the hotel itself...and the hotel does not qualify as 'budget'.
maybe LP has more transport ideas...
Good luck, hope you have an easy transit and a great time in Costa Rica

There's not much right by the airport, but Panama City has decent prices on hotels. Taxis to town are a set rate of I think $25 each way, and leave plenty of time as check in, while usually good, can be chaotic.

Thank you everyone for the helpful info.
We very much appreciate it!
It seems from the map that the airport isn't very far away from the center of the city, so we'll take advantage and spend some time there.

Regards!

Try to check out Hotel Centroamericano or Hotel Discovery. They are both great and affordable hotels in the city center.

Stay in Casco Viejo, if you are there for one night at least make it interesting.
