Earthquake hits Guat....anyone there?Country forums / Central America / Guatemala
Anyone on the ground in Guatemala have anything to report about the earthquake on June 13? Fortunately it sounds like the damage was mild, but some services like phone are out.
Oops....didn't notice the post already going on this topic since "terremoto" didn't register with this gringo! | 1
I was working in zone ten when people told me there had just been an earthquake. I turned on the TV to learn about it. I just thought a heavy truck had gone by. Damage? Not in Guatemala City. | 2
I was eating Taco Bell at Tikal Futura when people started lifting their heads up from their trays and looking around for confirmation. Lots of heads started nodding and my buddy and I started freaking out. Most of the other people in the food court just carried on with their meals. It was a real roll and tumble quake that must have gone for at least 15-20 seconds. My brother, who felt it in San Pedro la Laguna read online that it was 6.4-ish and centered off the Pacific Coast. It was scary as hell eating in that food courtyard with all that building and glass right above our heads. | 3

Eating at Taco Bell in Guatemala? | 6
It's better than most of the Tacos I've eaten here. It's one of my last remaining U.S. vices here in Guatemala. Perhaps the earthquake was from the gods telling me to stay away!! Ain't nothing wrong with it anyway. As I've said before Moderation is the key!!!!! Guatemalan born Pollo Campero is going like gang busters in the United States, by the way. Someone told me the New York branches reached their first 3 month sales projections in 2 weeks!! | 7
Huh....Good thing there are no Jack N the Box there....haha | 8
It seems that the CNN eporter here in Guatemala was the cause for the general alarm. She sent images of homes destroyed by river floods last week and not by the earthquake. So far, there has been no loss of life reported and loss of property has been minimal. | 9
#4 I was in Tapachula Mexico, even farther, and just barely felt it. Sitting in a hotel restaurant at the bottom of a tall building. Noticed my table shaking though it was somebody behind me, looked around and people were standing up feeling the walls. | 10
*THOUGHT its was somebody behing me (not though) | 11
