Driving, Hotels and Security of Parking

I am not even going to think about how much things have changed in the thirty years since I drove down CA 2

I will be coming from the ruins at Coban and driving to La Cieba (Sp?), then park for a week while visiting the bay islands.

Do smaller towns which we shall use for overnight, do hotels tend to have secure parking which means an uniniebrieted velador? Or do you find a secure parking lot?
