Critique on intinerary 16 dayCountry forums / Central America / Nicaragua
Hello all, Half of this trip will be at a surf camp, so it leaves less time for the rest of the country. I am skipping on Isla Ometepe, unless it trumps the other locations I will be going to. Day: (We supposedly will go volcano boarding from the surf camp and ?see Leon) So would it be worth it to try to get 2 more days off for vacation and somehow sneak in Isla Ometepe in (maybe shorten Jiquilillo since I will be doing the same thing at the surf camp or even skip it all together)? thanks
Where is the surf camp located? If you can get a couple more days for the trip, heck yeah, more time the better. Your already short changing Leon, need at least 2 full days in that town, IMO. To make Ometepe worth while, IMO, you need 3 nights at least. When is this trip? | 1
The camp is in Aposentillo and it is a 8 day in a row setup (yeah, it would be better to split it but cannot). | 2
Trip is February | 3 | |
You are spending a lot of time on the beach but maybe (hopefully) that is your main interest. But as you are already going to Little Corn and the surf camp you could consider skipping Jiquilillo. I love Jiquilillo but as the surf camp is close to Jiquilillo you could go there for the afternoon and check it out. Other fun activities in that area: nature reserve Padre Ramos and volcano Cosiguina. If you can get two extra days off I would go to Granada after Little Corn. Explore the town the afternoon of day 4. Day 5 go to Ometepe. Day 6-7 Ometepe. Day 8: make your way to Leon. Day 9: Leon and Telica evening tour. Day 10: Leon. Day 11: surf camp starts Ometepe is great: two volcanoes, one active and one covered in cloud forest, both tough climbs. Rural communities, lake beaches, natural reserves, wildlife, natural spring pool, ziplining (Chico Largo Adventure), kayaking, horseback riding... | 4
From Leon, if you want an evening trek up Telica, using a group tour, those don't leave every day. They do this 2-3x each week. So if you want this, either contact a tour company and arrange for a private tour, or contact a tour company a week or so beforehand and ask what dates they have scheduled for sunset Telica treks, and try to arrange your trip accordingly. | 5
Thanks for all the input mstep--thanks for heads up about frequency of Telica trips. I will email them early and will stay 3 nights to increase my odds of joining a trip. soniaberode--thanks. I had similar thoughts about the redundancy about going to a surf camp and Jiquilillo. I was going to try to get to Cosegüina from Jiquilillo on a day trip and the other day just chill out?Padre Ramos. But maybe I will insert Ometepe there. So far only one extra day to trip. | 6
Quetzaltrekkers don't go daily. When we were there Sonati would go as soon as they had 2 people. Tierra Tours claim they go daily. I know you are short on time but if you can fit it in go for the overnight camping trip to Telica. The campsite is great and the sunrise is amazing. | 7
This would be the more expensive private tour option I mentioned above. Quetzaltrekkers goes up Telica as an overnight trip each week. But there is another company (can't remember the name) that does Telica 2x or so each week as a cheaper group sunset tour, ending back in Leon the same night. | 8
Sonati only charged $35 per person for the overnight Telica camping trip. It was just the two of us. I assume the evening trek would not be more expensive. | 9
