Hi! I am a non-Spanisg speaking first time Central American solo traveller wanting to go from Costa Rica to Guatemala City. I am thinking of going one way by bus to "see the passing sights". I read about the TICA and other bus company which sound good (If a 12 hour bus ride can be classed as good...). My goal is to get to Guatemala for a volunteer opportunity, but I would like to "stop off" in Nicaragua and in El Salvador, possibly? recommended? I know that zipping through countries isn't exactly the style of most, but I am spending my time in Costa Rica and Guatemala. I also wouldn't mind breaking up the bus ride. I am thinking to Managua then Leon, then San Salvador and finally Guatemala City. Any recommended "stops" or sights? A few days in each place? Somewhere I didn't mention? Skip stopping in San Salvador and spend a week in Nicaragua? I know it is subjective and I also realize that one could spend weeks or months in any of these places, so just asking for some opinions...

I plan to fly back to Costa Rica. Any suggestions for flights? What I found so far was 170$ one way, Guatemala City to San Jose, C Rica...

Thanks in advance!

Need more info.
how much time do you have between cr an gc.
What is your budget.
what are your interests.
would suggest reading the FAQ's poted here and get a guidebook or do some research on places or things you might like to do.
Then ask for specfifcs.

Hi! Thanks for the reply. Of course I read the FAQ and I have been looking online for various information. Granted, I could have said that my budget is in the 40-50$ per day range. As far as interests - I was thinking more of hearing what other people did or thought was great and so on? I have varied interests. I thought it was clear that I was traveling from Costa Rica to Guatemala by bus and was wondering if there were any suggestions of things along the way Managua - Leon - San Salvador - Guatemala City? Stopping for a few days or so along the way if there was something of interest? I do agree that most people won't know current air prices and I wasn't trying to use the forum as a travel agent. I prefer not to buy guidebooks but will continue to research on the internet. Thank you!

If by Tica Bus, you usually overnight in San Salvador to go the next morning to Guatemala. Try to stay at Meson de Maria at San Benito district (the bus stops at two places: downtown - a bit sketchy and at San Benito district, which is upper end). There are things to do in San Salvador, or you can also go to the nearby beaches like El Tunco, about 50 - 60 kms from San Salvador.
