Bus from Tikal to San IgnacioCountry forums / Central America / Guatemala
Hello, is anyone able to tell me if it's possible to get on a bus from Tikal to San Ignacio after 12:00 p.m.? Thanks!
Public buses don't run from Tikal - maybe you could arrange a shuttle, though. | 1
You can use Guatemalan buses/colectivos/taxis to reach the border, walk through Immigration on both sides, then get a Belizean bus from Benque (the town nearest to the border). You'll have to use a taxi or colectivo to get from the border to Benque -- it's a few km. No express buses at that time of day. The bus from Benque to SI is only a couple of BZ$. If buses are not an option, arrange private transportation with taxis or a shuttle bus. While at Tikal, ask around and see if you can find someone else going. | 2
You can go straight from Tikal to San Ignacio without backtracking to Flores. Take any minibus going to Santa Elena but ask to be let off at the crossroads (called El Cruce Ixlu) just south of El Remate. There flag down any bus going to the border. We were picked up by an empty tourist shuttle. It takes an hour or so to the border. Once you have crossed the border you can take a taxi or colectivo to Benque (2 km) and there a bus to San Ignacio. | 3
#3's plan is how I would do it. there are less buses that time of day. taxi guys will tell you there arent any buses so as to get you to use them. you have to drive a harsh bargain. any way you can linger another night in the area so as to cop an early bus ride the next morning? El Remate near El Cruce. It's low key and funky. | 4
