Belmopan to Tabacco Caye

Hi all CA travellers !

I am planning a 3 week trip from cancun-belize-guatemala over Xmas and new year

Planning to spend a night in cancun as arriving late but heading straight to belize on the 6am bus to catch the second bus to belize city that afternoon and on to Caye caulker the same day for 4 nights of snorkelling and diving.

Xmas eve see's us heading over to San Ignacio, I think Cohune Palms River Caban and around for river trips over Xmas

Then, on to Flores for 3 nights taking in Tikal

I then plan to travel from Flores to Tobacco Caye via Belmopan for another 3 nights. Does anyone know if travelleing from Flores to Tobacco is possible in one day as I am planing to do this on 30th Dec ready for NYE on the island ??

After that I have 4 days free to do whatever I want before Travelling back to Mexico to fly back fro cancun on 8th Jan. Any suggestions or experiences in that area are welcome as I have never been before and do not normally book in advance. This being the Xmas period, I need a bit of a plan and some advance bookings.

HI Sally, If you can get from Flores to Dangriga in one day you will be doing good. The boats to Tobacco Caye leave from Dangriga near the Riverside restaurant around 9am so it is best to spend the night before at a place within walking distance like Pal's Guest house which is right near the bus station. I never make reservations but I might call ahead from Dangriga on a holiday weekend. The Riverside restaurant should be able to put you in touch with a hotel on Tobacco such as Gaviotas, my favorite.

I'd say it's possible to get to Dangriga in one day.

There are 3 buses that depart from Flores between 5am and 7:30am. They are express buses to Belize City, and are no longer allowed to stop anywhere else in Belize, but you can get off at the border, cross over and get to Benque, and then get a bus to Belmopan. At Belmopan, change to a bus for Dangriga. You should get to Dangriga in the afternoon.

All those buses operate daily.

Because of the time factor, Tulum would be a very convenient stop on the way back to Cancun. Another option would be water taxi from Belize City to Caye Caulker.

My timings have changed slightly, trying to fit everything in.

Now planning to travel from Caye Caulker to Ingacio on 26th Dec, Boxing day. With this being a holiday do you thinks its possible within a day?

I have read some bad reviews about Tobacco and the place I wanted to stay was full. Has anyone been recently and had a good experience ?

It seems very expensice in Tulum, do you know of anywhere thats good value ? Thinking of stopping there on the way down.

Caye Caulker to San Ignacio is possible in 1 day.

When you arrive in Belize City, walk or get a taxi to the bus terminal and get a west-bound bus to San Ignacio. Buses usually depart hourly, but there might be a reduced schedule on 26 December.

Should take a couple of hours on a regular bus.

We are planning to do the same trip . Flying to Cancun and spending 3 weeks in Belize, Guatemala (Caye Caulker, Tobacco, San Ignacio, Flores/Tikal). On the way back spend some time in Tulum. We want to do this trip over Xmas/New year but we are afraid that it will be difficult to find accommodation, because it will be 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children). How far in advance you need to book accommodation for these places? It seems that some places in Tobacco caye are already full?

Just got back from Tobocco Caye (and the rest of Belize)

The water "taxi" is $35 (Belizean) per person, and leaves generally when the captain has enough passengers.

This tended to be around 10:30, but some left as late as 12, others as early as 9.
We stayed at er.. Bluefields (?), Blue-something or other (In the LP) which was wicked, and they know one of the Captains (Captain Buck) so organsied a time for us to go over.

He leaves Tobacco Caye 9am for the return leg (stays on the island)

We stayed at "Paradise" which is excellently named US$35 per night (for a cabana for 2 ppl) inclusive of 3-meals a day and balconies over the water.

Just a heads-up, Tobacco Caye is TINY.
At a good pace, you could probably walk around it in about 15 minutes. It has 2 bars, 1 restaurant and that's it - it's beautiful and very chilled. You can snorkle from the beach, but for more and better snorkelling a trip is neccessary.

Also, we didn't make any bookings in advance, and I don't think ANY of the places were full.
