Hi everyone,

me and my girlfriend are planning a last minute trip to Panama from May 1 to May 14th.

The weather reports I came upon are extremely varied - rainy, half rainy, rains in some places etc.

We are planning on visiting San Blas, Bocas, bits of Pacific coast and mountains.

Has anybody been there during the time and can somebody comment?

We are from Northern Europe and this would be our first Central American visit. It would be great to enjoy some of its famous sun and not to drown in the rain.

Any help appreciated.

Best,
Casa

If you look at the weather forecast for all the countries in CA, between April and Dec, the map shows rain, as there is a higher percentage odds of afternoon showers. In the tropics, its these daily rains that keep the canopy lush and everything so GREEN. Dont let this deter you, its the best time to visit CA. The main time that its a bummer, depending on coast and country, is late Sept to early Nove, when hurricane season is impacting much of the region.

As far as the micro climates on the caribe coast of Panama, like Costa Rica, some months are the opposite of the Pacific side, and some areas more prone to rains, even one section of coast can be worse than 25Km away. I cant comment on BDT Panama, but May in general is a fine to visit CR, as I have been for 11 years.

Just go. Bring lots of SPF 45, and a hat, you will need it, promise.

Ha! I completely agree with SoloHobo's assessment. Don't let it deter you - the afternoon showers can actually be a welcome break for me. I was in Bocas last year around May and it was still pretty great. Of course, a small roof over your head on the dock, and a hammock always helps ;)

Bocas Chillaxin' in May

Have fun!

The rain returns early May in the Azuero Peninsula. Rains 2-3 times a week, for a few hours in the afternoons.
The rains are refreshing------
