I will be in Panama for the month of March, which I understand will also coincide with Semana Santa. To what degree is the week celebrated in Panama? I made the mistake of being in Argentina last March, and it became almost impossible to find accommodation. Will it be the same in Panama? Any advice would be helpful, as I would rather not have to book hostels and hotels in advance.

Thanks kindly.

For Easter weekend -- the 21st thru the 23rd -- Panama City will be empty, but the interior (i.e., everyplace outside Panama City) will be very busy, because every local with a car or bus fare heads out. Other than that, you should book your hotel in the city ASAP -- I have heard many reports of "no vacancy." Also, Panama (mostly) takes Good Friday seriously: no drinking, no parties.

Thanks Costero. Very much appreciated.

P.S. Glad to hear that Good Friday is not just a big party...those years are somewhat behind me!

Do the buses run? I think buses don't run in some of the countries starting Thursday. Good Friday seemed to be a much bigger deal than Easter Sunday both times I was in Central America for Semana Santa.
