Hello all! Is Panama City, Panama a good place for spanish immersion? Meaning, is it overly touristy where i'll be running into gringos and English speakers everywhere I go? I've heard about Boquete, but I really prefer to stay in the city as i'll be there for 2 months. Anyone know of any programs, places to stay etc? Anyone know of any private tutors that aren't affiliated with language schools? Also, please recommend places to stay/avoid safety wise within the city. I'm an intermediate to advanced spanish speaker, but really want to use these next 2 months to get over the hump and hit fluency.

Thanks in advance for any info

I know of this school in Costa Rica. They also have a branch in Panama City. I have studied there off and on for years (in CR)and have always found the school to be excellent. I would conclude that the school in Panama City is of the same high quality.

Boquete is where I think you would have the most expat and tourist exposure. I think PC would be great.

I went to Ileri through Spanish abroad and they are a great school. Panama City is good for immersion. The school is in a neighborhood without a lot of tourists around. I would stick with a school since they have reputable instructors. You may find private instructors to be cheaper, but the only person to vouch for them would be themselves, whereas as a school has to stand by their instructors. This is why I went with an agent to make sure I wasn't going to get the run around.
