...i don´t know much about cell phones but would lilke to have one for a couple of weeks in panama city..mainly to receive messages while i´m there

....any help?

While in Panama City, I talked to one of the guys at a phone store. It appears there are a couple of options:
If you have an unlocked cell phone, you can buy a sims card for about $5 and use it with their local carrier or a phone card. The other option is to buy a pay as you go phone- $50-100 and use it with a local carrier or phone card. Not sure if I totally understand what is involved but I think the simscard is the way to go.

A new mobile telephone provider just started recently (Digicel) and they were selling mobile-phones for USD10.00.
It's possible to find cell phones for less than USD20 from all providers, Cable & Wireless, Telefónica Movistar and Digicel.
