Do we actually need Senafront permission to fly to Sambu?

I've read conflicting information; a couple reportedly turned back on arrival at the airstrip, another independent traveller having no problems at all. Anyone know what the situation is at the moment?

I've tried to be enterprising and sent an email seeking permission to Senafront (with passport number, dates, detailed itinerary, reasons for visiting). But after a month and a couple of chasers, still no reply.

I'd only be in Panama City the afternoon before flying, so am concerned that if I go to the Senafront office (at Corozal Este) then, it'll either be closed, or I won't leave enough time for them to process, or both.

Anyone got an advice or experiences?

Thanks very much.

I think I might be able to answer my own question on this; having spoken to Senafront, they say that as movement within Panama is not restricted, there is no need to seek 'permission' from them to visit any area. However, they encouraged me to inform them of my planned route in Darién, so they could be aware of my comings and goings and so they could relay any important safety advice. I'll let you know if anything different happens when I get to Sambu!
