Fiesta De Santa Librada

The festival of Santa Librada is celebrated in the town of Las Tablas in the province of los Santos, Panama. This religious festival celebrates the patron saint of Las Tablas. Santa Librada is the saint of the poor, married woman and is a very popular saint in this region. The festival is celebrated every July and begins on Thursday 19th and ends on Sunday the 23rd. It is a mix of celebrations and folklore traditions with partys on the streets each day of the festival. The religious aspect is only celebrated on Thursday and Friday, however the parties don't stop until Sunday! God bless Panama.
There are many activities throughout the days such as contests many people wear traditional clothing of Panama and the contests take place to highlight these aspects of the culture and traditions. Furthermore, between Thursday and Friday, many devotees pay tributes to the statue of Santa Libreta bringing tokens of thanks for miracles that have been granted by the saint. The statue of the saint is dressed in traditional colors, red and blue with lots of gold jewellery and chains representing different parts of the body. The religious celebrations end with a huge mass in the church which everybody attends, however the parties continue in the street.

Las Tablas is about 4 hours from Panama City and 5 from David City (via Divisa.)
Accommodations will be slim and expensive in Las Tablas, therefore Chitre, which is only 30 minutes away from the festival is an option for travellers.
