So Im flying from San Jose to Panama, and I want to get to Bocas del Toro asap!
I can either choose to fly to David (which seems closer to Bocas) or I can fly to Panama city and from there take a bus to Bocas.

Which option is best?

I will go to Panama City after Bocas del Toro, but I want to start with Bocas.
Is there anything to see in David? Anything to do?

If I want to catch the bus to the ferry to take to Bocas, where can I find info for this bus, what is it called? (Ive tried googleing already)

Is David safe as a city? thanks :)

I visited David a few years ago as a solo and it didn't feel any different in terms of safety to any other towns in the area - there wasn't anything particularly attractive about it though (although I was only there for a stop over and it was a few years ago... I'm sure someone will soon pipe up if its improved of late!)

You said you'd booked your flight to Panama City already, right? If so, I would definitely recommend spending a few days there if you have time - at least to see the canal and to marvel at the contrast between the Old Town and the modern city - such a contrast and really fascinating! From there you can either bus to Almirante and then boat to Bocas or bus to David, overnight there and continue the next day.

If you haven't booked your flight yet, and are not particularly attracted to Panama City itself, then did you know you can fly straight from San Jose to Bocas with www.natureair.com? OR if you like your Caribbean beach towns, you could interbus from San Jose (www.interbusonline.com) to Puerto Viejo on the Costa Rican Caribbean coast not far from the border. Enjoy a few days there and then take a shuttle across the border to Bocas - this border crossing is interesting too! Both journeys can't be more than 4 hours if my memory serves me correctly.

If you are flying into San Jose, why not take a bus to Pt Viejo day 1, about 5 hours, then take a bus next morning to Sixoala border and get a taxi and then the ferry, another 3-4 hours max, or take a shuttle from Pt Viejo to BDT? That is the most direct route and cheapest way.

Or fly there from San Jose on Nature Air! though not daily flights.

If you've not bought your San José SJO - Panama PTY air-ticket check Air Panama flighst from SJO to David DAV, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Thanks for your replies!

I dunno why I got stuck with the idea of taking San Jose - David or Panama city and then bus to Bocas del toro,
when Natureair flies San Jose - Bocas del toro (thanks #1!!)

So im going with Natureair, just bought my ticket and the price was even cheaper than with Airpanama!
So Bocas, here I come :)
