Hello,

I am going to be travelling in Colombia for a few weeks and then planning to go to the bay islands of Honduras almost directly (lack of time) . The best way would be to fly but flights from panama are almost 1/2 price than ones from bogota so I was thinking to maybe do a small tour to the San blas islands from Colombia and then travel to panama city to fly to honduras.

My question is if that's even a possible plan :) Ive read that you can get to San blas from Cartagena an then it is easy to get to panama city from there but it's only info I read on the Internet sites so not sure how much of it is true.

If the journey is possible, what would be the best way to get from Colombia to San blas and then San blas to panama and what sort of cost would I be looking at? I'm looking to go beginning of September.

Thanks,

Sara

Thats a shame that lifecentralamerica didn´t actually make a complaint to use about Frederico at the time they travelled. Makes it easier to believe when they talk up one boat and down another! We certainly haven´t received complaints to say that about Frederico before, and we would be speaking to him if we had. Also on another post they said they had been in Colombia for two years, Please let me know how to do that as a tourist visa is only for 6 months!!

It is possible to get to Puerto Obaldia and get a flight from there to Panama City, but just be careful. The flights are often booked a week or two in advance. If you search on here you´ll find a few instances of where people have had to wait. If you do want to do that route I think you need to allow yourself at least a week to allow for delays.

Stuart, it appears that Lifecentralamerica #7 just joined the LP Forum and the only post are about sailboats between Panama>Colombia...I wonder what the motive is, many are negative concerning Blue Sailing-

Hi all

So the so-called new ferry is still not in service ?
I am trying to find a cheap and quick way to reach Panama from Cartagena 1st October or so.
Any help ?
Thanks

You can take a series of busses/cargo boats between Turbo and Panama, need to be very fluid schedule and open mind, rough a bit, see FAQ for details.

Otherwise, a sailboat.

October is peak rainy season so expect bad weather both at sea and inland on the mainland for Panama and Costa Rica.

Cheapest and easiest is usually to fly straight to Panama City. It doesn´t cost that much more than the Turbo/San Blas route and is a hell of a lot more comfortable and quicker. The ferry never made it and probably never will.

I'm a newby to this posting thing, so bear with me! I used Blue Sailing to book my trip to Colombia from Panama. I'd been hearing good things about them from all the way up in Utila in Honduras. They even helped by coordinating with Liz at Lunas Castle in Panama to arrange the jeep and motor boat to pick me up. Ask around and I reckon that you will hear the same from other travellers. Does anyone else think that it's weird/racist that lifecentralamerica says that no-one should travel with Spanish speaking captains??? All they do is whinge about blue sailing. Something fishy there, perhaps lifecentralamerica are really a boat captain with an axe to grind. Feel free to answer in Spanish, by the way.
