How plausible is Boquete as a destination in mid-August. Charts indicate 20 inches of rain but allegedly this is in the afternoon. So I take a nap, no big deal. Are things open to do? I want to do some hiking, visit coffee farms, maybe some rafting, the zip line canopy tour and relax and eat & drink. How much of the day can I expect a deluge of rain?
Hola
Its going to be rainy, so the best approach Will be just to be mentaly prepares to just get wet. On the good side, rafting Will be a lot of fun ;)

We just came back from Panama and Boquete is definitely a great place to visit. The best way I can describe it is that it's a combination of San Fransisco, with cool clouds and fog, and South Florida rain.
Don't let the rainfall totals deter you. Usually the rain is in the afternoon and comes in a downpour. It can easily rain 2 inches in 15 minutes. If you're there for activity, you'll be wet anyway or praying for it to rain. We were lucky and the rain stayed in a typical afternoon pattern, but based on what we saw you can enjoy the area even in the rain. Just be practical and careful.
We used Boquete Outdoor Adventures for all our activities. Jim, the owner, is an expat from the U.S. For a couple of hundred dollars, you can river raft, tour pacific islands, hike and do coffee tours without having to plan everything. He also provide transport (most of the tour companies and operators do) to all activities from his downtown office.
If you don't have a car, Boquete is small enough to get around by taxi for few dollars per trip.
