Considering visiting Panama solo for approximately two weeks end of July. Have visited Panama City, Boquete, Portobello, and Bocas a couple of times. Would like to visit southern Azuero, Santa Fe, and maybe make it back up to Cerro Punta area. Maybe a couple of days in Panama City area coming or going.

Considered flying to Pedasi and renting a car, but it seems that option is no longer available with the demise of Aeroperalas. Air Panama indicates that the route is discontinued. I am hesitant to attempt driving/navigating solo out of Panama City. My spanish language skills are very limited.

Interested in birding, hiking, swimming and relaxing with a cold Panama.

Any input on this itinerary, and especially transportation, greatly appreciated.

Happy 4th to everyone.

You could easily fly or bus to David and rent a car there, hit Cerro Punto and double back to Varaguas. Driving in David is easy compared to Panama, my 70 year old dad did it fine.

And from Varaguas, back to David, then back to Panama? There has been some talk of direct flights from PTY to David beginning in July, which would eliminate the need to transfer to Albrook to catch the flight to David. Any info on this? Thanks!

Buses leave Albrook (PTY) every hour for Chitre directly. Once in Chitre rent a car. Chitre has an Alamo,Avis,Budget and aThrifty.

you could rent a car in Santiago halfway from pan. city to david, I would check out the cool lost and found ecohostel www.lostandfoundlodge.com if you have not been there yet...its in the highlands and definately covers a lot of the things you are interested in since its situated in the reserve.
