Op
I gotta telly ou I think you are doing yourself and the countries you plan to visit a deservice by using cruise ship mentality to think you can get a grasp on a whole country by simply spending few hours there and eating by the bus stations?
San Salvador has at least 7 museums that might be worth visiting that 2.5 days right there, without seeing any of the local attractions.
Seems a waste...
But to each his/her own. At least you can tell your friends you "visited" all these places

I get the sentiment of peej and solo ...... but come on! .... not everyone has the luxury of unlimited time to travel! Please.

I have been to Guat (x2), El Sal, and Panama ..... and didn't spend 10 days at anytime. People with jobs and real lives can't do as you ask, and for you to intimate that visiting these countries is only worth it if you spend a long time there is disingenuous. Of course we would all love to have unlimited time to travel.

OP, I traveled from Guat City to San Salvador (but got out mid way) on Tica Bus .... very nice, no cost at border. And I traveled from Panama City to David (north Panama) ... on regular Panama bus ..... but returned by flight (Air panama) ..... which I would recommend ..... quicker, not too expensive.

Have fun.

I am not a fan of long bus trips, especially day after day, 3-4 hours and then 3-4 days is best for me...

If you can fly from Colombia to ES or Guatemala, or Liberia for CR/Nicaragua, I would do that with limited time.

The OP asked our opinion and we gave it to him.
Seems crazier to think you can see a whole country in 2 days or less..
Sorry you have a position that doesn't allow you real time to travel. Don't get upset with those that can and have a real life.
haha
OP whatever you decide, have fun.

#15 ......... very true

My bad ....... missed that he is just spending at most 2 days in each place!! So, yes would agree that that would be seriously rushed ....

But to each their own

I too wish I was in a position to travel more and for longer periods! But, you can still enjoy and experience great things on shorter trips ..... as I have in many places.

Actually ... I hate taking buses ......... but in CA, not much alternative.

Thanks to all for your comments! I appreciate and learn from different opinions.

Truth is, I don't aspire to see and experience a whole country in one day. On a first visit like this one, I do make the most of it by just spending one day in each country to have an overview of a region. Every time I travel somewhere I read beforehand about the architecture, food, culture of the city. So, to me this plan works to perfection. Walking around and finding the places I read about, going to a restaurant and eating the local dish, and hopefully going to the theatre at night, or the Mayan ruins... those things fill my senses with the things I want to try in a new place. I live by the sea, so unlike most travellers, nature does not surprise me that much. That's the reason one day in a city for me is enough on a first visit. But I do understand that most travellers want to spend many days to grab the feeling of the place, from nature to culture, and sports to nightlife.

your statement ... "So, to me this plan works to perfection" ........ is all you need to say! Whatever works for you is the way to go.

Enjoy!
