This is our first trip to Nicaragua. We have 7 full days plus half day when we arrive plus a morning when we fly out around noon. I am traveling with my wife and 3 kids (9, 13, 15). Trying to figure out a good itinerary. Would love to get people's thoughts and suggestions on things to do and areas we should go or not go to.

We were thinking about doing 3 days in Granada area and 3 days in San Juan Del Sur but hearing that San Juan Del Sur isn't interesting.

Granada (Tour the town, kayak…

Hi,

I just got back from a 16 day trip to Nicaragua, and as usual I received some excellent info here on TT. it is time to give back. Here is my trip report: all prices quoted are in USD and include tax (15%), but are approximate.

About us:
- Mid thirties couple
- Budget spent : 1500 USD per person(excluding flight to Nicaragua, but including flight to Corn Islands)
- We could easily have spent 50% less, but we preferred nice hotels and mostly ate international food (I HATE gallo pinto :-) ). I…

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I are traveling to Nicaragua and we'll have 11 full days in country. Below is a rough itinerary I was thinking of. I'd love some feedback, including travel times, things to do in each of the places, and any suggestions for making it better. We love outdoor activities like hiking (and probably volcano boarding), and will find the history interesting in Leon and Granada. We're not so much partiers, so I'm not sure if we should do San Juan del Sur or not. I've read a…

Hi Guys, I'm arriving in Managua very late on Saturday night and going to hang around till Monday and get a taxi to Granada...any recommendations on something relatively chilled out to do for a few hours during the day? Even to just get a look at the place.

Hi,

Planning to travel to Nica end of July and was wondering the best spots to go surf. I'm a beginner and my plan is to be able to surf every day if I want to ... so ideally being able to walk to the beach, rent a board and surf.
I understand that the last part may not be possible therefore I'll be happy with a spot with small waves.

Thank you

Joana

At the moment (July 1st) the Onetepe / Altagracia - San Carlos ferry is NOT operating! Apparently the water level in the lake is too low for the ferry to be able to moor at San Carlos. Not enough rain yet this season, maybe also due to the fact that this is an El Niño year?
Altenatives are a flight from Ometepe to San Carlos ($70) - or overland via ferry Mogoyalpa - San Jorge / bus to Rivas etc.

Hi:
Booked a vacation (Nicaragua) for late August.....never been there before. My kids are 10 & 15 years. Thinking Ometepe/ Grenada / or Little Corn. Just wondering how families made out with their kids re/ intestinal concerns/ reactions to bites etc... Thinking that the more touristy C.R might be easier even though we have already visited there.
