Hi everybody,

I have the same question about getting to Leon from Managua airport, but my flight is scheduled to arrive in Managua only at 9:00pm. So from the replies I saw on the other thread, guess I should spend the night in Managua and catch a minibus the next morning...yes? I read in the lonely planet that at night, it is safer to catch the airport taxi than the ones on the other side of the road even though they are more expensive. Does anyone know about how much those are?

Otherwise…

Hi guys.

I`m traveling to Leon in February, and will be needing some transport from Managua airport to Leon. I have been looking in the threads but I haven't found an answer that I really was looking for.
The options I have seen is Paxeos, but they seem a bit steep when it comes to Leon, and serves mainly Granada if I am not mistaking? I have also read about the possibility of taking a taxi into the center of Managua, and then hop on a bus to Leon? Some people told us that it was possible to…

fried food

My daughter has a sensitivity to fried foods, ie violent cramps within 20 minutes of eating it. She also does not like beans at all, but eats everything else. Will we be ok? I am only asking because it seems there is a LOT of fried food in Nica. Thanks!

Hello again, still researching my trip...

I read that in most ATM in Nicaragua, it is possible to withdraw american dollars as well as the national currency, cordobas, but everywhere on the net I only get prices in US$. Is it more convenient to withdraw US$, cordobas or would you suggest a mix of both? I am really no economy expert and was wondering if the cordobas follows the US$ in its up and down or if they are very independant? Are the prices in cordobas over there adjusted…

2 questions here.

  1. We'll be in Nica the 1st 10 days of so of Jan. Is this too late for any turtle egg-laying or hatching activities, and I understand the turtles come according to moon phase or some such. Can anyone point me in the direction of more info about this so I can see just when my chances of seeing them would be best?

  2. I'm looking at Parque Maritimo el Coco. We are not interested in just going to the beach to lie around; we are more interested in being active in a…

Hi fellow TTers,
I was wondering if anyone of you could recommend some places to stay to explore the area around Jiquillillo/Machapa, Puerto Potosí and the volcano for a few days.
We're obviously looking into Rancho Esperanza, and have discarded Monty's and that plush resort place in Machapa, but just wanted to see if there are any other options people would recommend.
We'll be driving our camioneta so we're not dependent on bus routes and times.

Cheers,
kolpez

Here is a question/travel tip:

Has anyone noticed that the FDC import (I bought some at the duty free at Managua airport) is not as smooth as the FDC you buy in the rest of Nicaragua? Also, it is 80 proof as opposed to 70 proof, and all the words on the bottle are in english. And it has a really annoying plastic stopper. It was $8 for a liter of it, so I can't complain too much.

So I recommend stocking up before you go to the airport to leave, although the rows and rows of FDC and cigars…

Hello There everyone,
I wonder if I can get lucky and rent a flat with 2 bedrooms in Managua on February and March ( 2 months only)-( some how ,flexible dates)
The only catch here is that it needs to be either on the Colonia Esperanza or Colonia de los Periodistas-
Please give us any feedback, we are also trying the newspapers there and word to mouth, but just in case there is somebody out there whom knows somebody...
We can pay no more than $400
