Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I will be in Nicaragua soon and are trying to put together a loose itinerary for the trip. Some questions have arisen. Our plan is to rent a car in Managua and spend a day or two meandering through Masaya and to Granada at our own pace. We want to go to Ometepe for a couple of days, but don't want to spend half a day in transit from Granada. So we were looking to take the ferry from San Jorge. Only issue is, we will have a rented car. Is it possible to leave a…
Howdy everyone!
Just booked a Nicaragua trip with 2 of my (male) buddies. We'll be flying in and out of Managua for the first two weeks of Sept '13. We are all 25 and taking a little break from work. I was told Lonely Planet forums were a great medium to help plan trips, so thank you for your advice in advance.
We decided on Nicaragua because we had heard some great reviews and flights were reasonable. We are looking to relax on beautiful beaches, go on fishing trips, volcano trips and other…
I will be crossing the border from Costa Rica on 12/11. From there I will take a taxi to San Juan Del Sur and stay until 12/16. On 12/16 I will find a ride to Managua because my flight out of Nicaragua is on 12/17 at 8am. Any suggestions on price and travel time from Penas Blancas to SJDS and from SJDS to Managua?
Granada:
We took a shuttle from Leon to Granada, it was only $12 per person. From reading reviews and reports on here I had the feeling that Granada was a place that was going to be super touristy and not worth staying for a while. However it was the end of our trip and we really just felt like splurging a little and relaxing and ended up staying for almost 6 days here. I didn’t find Granada that bad. It definitely has the infrastructure for tourism, as noticed with its long road of American…
Hey everyone,
This is mine and my fiancé’s, Aaron, trip report of Nicaragua for June 2013. It is a lot of information so I am going to post about each city separately.
We travelled to Little Corn Island, Leon and Granada and spent between 5 and 6 days at each destination. I was able to schedule our flight to Little Corn to be 2 hours after we arrived in Managua so we had a pretty seamless transition to the Corn Islands. I found it super easy to get a taxi from the airport to the ferry. It was…
Hola,
Any recommendations on what hostel I should stay at in Granada?
Thank you in advance!
I am planning on going to the Corn Islands and read on there website about flying from Managua right to the island. I’m looking for someone who has done this before to give me a little information about there experience with flying and the airport and how everything went.
Also did you find the Corn Islands to be worth going there?
Was there a lot of tourist on the island?
Did you feel the island was safe?
THANK YOU!
Hello! I'm a solo female traveler and I'm arriving in Managua at 130pm. I've read on this forum that it is safest to take a taxi or paxeo at night, but I'd prefer not to spend $40 on travel. Is it safe for me to just take a bus from Managua to Granada in the afternoon? It's just me and my backpack, no big luggage.
Thank you for any help you can offer!
My buddy and I are traveling up the west coast of Costa Rica (using shuttle buses) into Nicaragua to San Juan Del Sur start of December. The catch is that I am paralyzed from the waiste down and in a wheelchair, but am very fit and an experienced traveler (just came back from three weeks in thailand). I have a few questions. How far is San Juan Del Sur from the border, and roughly how much would a cab be to get us from the border to there? And then what is the best way to get from San Juan Del…
Hi, I am looking for a finca in Nicaragua for 2-5 days' horse riding trip. This could either be a trek from A to B, or simply a stay at a finca with a decent amount of riding per day (at least 4hrs but more would be good). Has anyone had a nice experience anywhere in Nicaragua? Something with a cabin or a basic room included -plus meals, as I am expecting it will be somewhere quite far- and of course well-kept, energetic horses! Many thanks!
