This has to be my 9th time I'm here in beautiful Nicaragua but unfortunately I've never really enjoyed it. I've always come here with family and this is my first trip on my own and I really want to see the natural wonders of this country. I was hoping I could possibly find some other folks, wither you're traveling through or you live here, to get to know this place better with. I'm currently in Managua and I'll be here till around the 5th of August so I know I'd have the time to check out &amp…

Hi there. I bought the LP book on Nica but very little information on backpacking. Little information on this forum too, although I may have missed some relevant post. Here is what I would like to do with or without guides:

Trek and camp out on various volcano sites for 5-7 days. Can anyone recommend an itineary and/or local guide? Is it recommended to this solo or with guides? Would love to go to hot springs along the way and coffee farms as well. After spending a week trekking we are…

I am traveling to Nicaragua/Costa Rica in September/October. As soon as I arrive in Nicaragua I am spending 4-5 days on Little Corn Island. After that I will be heading to Jiquilillo and I was wondering if it was better to take a cab or a bus there? I was told by a friend that a cab would cost $70-100. Is it smarter, being a solo female traveler, to take a cab?? After 4-5 days in Jiquilillo, I will head on down to Costa Rica. What is the best means of transportation to get to Costa Rica?

Thanks…

I hear there is a direct bus from Granada to airport in Managua. Need to get there by 9am or else spend a night in Managua. Not keen on expensive taxis but what might that cost for three passengers?.

¿Verdad?

So, back to Nicaragua for me, I couldn't keep away!

I'm leaving in September until the beginning of October (I know, rainy sesaon etc) and would love to hear input on the itinerary. Our primary objective is to actually scout out some places to open a hostel or bar by the beach but we're also there for holidays too.

Am thinking the following:

Fly straight to CI: 4-5 days
Bluefields and Laguna de Perlas: 3-4 days
Managua overnight
Leon and Poneloya/Las Penitas: 6 days
Jiquilillo and Cosiguina: 3-4…

Traveling through Central America late October, early November. I have just a little over two weeks to sight see. (CR, Nicaragua and Honduras) I had both Diriamba and Selva Negra on my itinerary, but am thinking I don't have time to see both. This is my first time to Nicaragua and really want to get the feel of the country. If I can't see both cities...which one should I choose?

I am already planning on visiting Leon and the beach near by.Traveling from Liberia, CR. I will be using public…

Finca Mystica

Not sure anyone would know the answer to this, but - we are hoping to stay at Finca Mystica while on Ometepe later this year. I've been trying to reach them for a couple of weeks (email, website, etc) about a reservation and am getting no response. There's nothing on their website about being closed during this time of year, but I'm assuming that's the case (and it's the only explanation I can think of). Does anyone know whether they close down for a while during June or July?

El Rio Coco

Hi there,

I'm currently living in Nicaragua and I'm trying to plan an epic trip for when my brother comes down in September.

I've read a bit about a multi day rafting trip down the Rio Coco that I'm really interested in.
I haven't found much about how to find guides or if there are outfits that do this or even if you can rent rafts.

SO I've come to the forum for any advice about this trip. Who to contact? When to go as September is well into the rainy season.
Any info would be appreciated.

Río San Juan

Just went on a kayaking trip on the Río San Juan. Spent the night in the rainforest, went caiman and crocodile spotting. We rented kayaks in el Castillo and got Juan Ardilla as our guide. I highly recommend him as a guide and this over night trip. Three meals, kayaks for two days, camping equipment, hikes in bartola, and the night time boat ride for crocs was only fourty bucks. ask for juan in el Castillo.
