Random and specific question but I'd like some advice from you experienced Nicaragua people.

What shoes should I bring? My trip will take me to Ometepe, Corn Islands, Rio San Juan and the Pacific Coast. I love traveling light so would ideally bring flip-flops and one pair of shoes. I'm torn between my palladiums or my trail running shoes - they're sort of like these but in the obligatory bright color scheme marketing seems to think women prefer.

I'm not a hardcore off-the-beaten track hiker…

Most transactions seem to be priced in USD?
Should I come prepared with small US bills?
Do ATMs give money in both currencys?
Should I trade for some cordobas at the airport for my 6 day stay?
muchas gracias

Hi!

A friend and I are traveling around Central America this summer, part of our trip is spending a few days in Granada before heading to Roatan. We are looking at a flight that leaves Managua at 8 am, meaning we would ]have to leave Granada early that morning, probably around 530 or 6. What are your thoughts in getting transportation at that time of the morning? Is it safe? Any recommendations on bus companies we should be looking at?

Thank you!

Have any of you had issues trying to find a hostel the day of? The place I want to stay at does not take reservations and I'm wondering if any of you have ever ran into this and found no place to stay. I'm leaving in 2 weeks and will be in Ometepe by end of month. That's where the hostel is that does not take reservations. I have to call them the morning of.

We'll be staying four nights in Granada in late May, and want to visit at least one of these places while in the area to see the birds. We know that they're most often visited from Managua, but they're also fairly close to Granada. So, we have a few questions.

Has anyone toured them from Granada?
Are they very similar, or are they different enough that it's worth it to visit both?
Is one better than the other?

I know the parakeets leave in the morning and return in the late afternoon to…

I am an avid cyclist who would probably ride 30 to 50 miles (50 to 80 kilos)
around Leon and Granada. Other than the previously mentioned coastal area
of Granada, will I be ok touring the surrounding countryside?

as always ,thanks to everyone on the Thorn Tree!

Hey everyone. Sooo, yeah, I've been reading where travel is sparse on Sunday within Ometepe. My thought was to stay at El Zopilote Hostel, which is in Santa Cruz. From what I'm reading, I can take a bus from Moyogalpa to ALTAGRACIA. But once there, I'm not sure how to get to Santa Cruz. I want to stay in a "jungle" type atmosphere. This is why I chose Santa Cruz area. I am completely open to another place. This is just what I have researched thus far. So my question is... How am I going to get…
