Me and my girlfriend will be in Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua during the month of May.
We are looking for a propper nature experience and allready put our minds on Nicaragua (should be realy diverse and cheaper).
Our ideal adventure: spending a couple of days in the rain forest, with as less as possible other tourists, with an English speaking skillfull guide, sleeping in huts with the Indians, learning some of their culture and how to survive and seeing heaps of animals. Of course, this is…
First of all, I should mention that my Mother and I are well traveled, and my wife has been to several places outside of the states, but this will be my daughter and her first time to an impoverished nation. Because we will be taking our daughter, we will be renting a 4x4 SUV to get around. Here is my rough outline as to what I think we will do during our trip beginning in late July and into August:
Day one: Arrive @ Noon.
-Arrive in Nica!
-Pick up rental car.
-Drive to our house in Masaya.

I traveled with my partner in mid March to Nicaragua. We were looking for beach time in a culturally interesting place that was affordable. We like a lot of outdoor activity usually but had to keep my limitations in mind as I'm 6 months pregnant.
Itinerary: laguna de apoyo 2 nights, island de ometepe 3 nights, little corn island 5n, Granada 1n.
The trip was sublime and one of our best ever. We were glad with the time alotted for each place. Of course if we had more time we perhaps would have…
Just read a post that stated getting from San Jorge (Ometepe Port) to Granada may be a bit challenging.... I was thinking it was as easy as grabbing a taxi.. Is it not?
Hi,
I'll be landing in Managua (from Canada) on a Saturday night, and catching a flight to Corn Islands the very next morning...several questions:
1. I read of someone recommending the Bello Horizonte area. I don't need a fancy hotel. I would prefer a clean, modest guesthouse...And my main criteria would be that I'm not stuck in 'airport-ville' for the night, while still being close enough to get back there quite early the next morning.
Any particular suggestions for guesthouses, restaurants…
Hi. I will be landing in Managua late in the evening (~8pm). I would like to get a flight to Corn Island.
Does anyone know what time the La Costena office closes? Is it feasible for me to purchase a ticket at that time of night, or are the offices already closed?
Also, what are the chances of getting a same-day/next-day ticket in early April? This will determine my itinerary...if I can get one right away, I'd head to Big Corn right away; if I have to wait, then that part will be the end of the…
Hi.
Wow, new forum.
Heading to Nica on Saturday! Arriving late, departing the next day 6am for Corn Islands.
- What's my best approach with cash given these timings? Bring a load of US$, enough to last Corn for six nights? Is there an ATM at the airport? My only options to get cordobas are, I think, going to be at the airport, Best Western where I'm staying, or perhaps on Big Corn. What's best?
- Any tips for trying to minimise chance of La Costena selling my seat to someone else or leaving my…
I am renting a car at the airport in Managua and traveling with my wife and two daughters to ometepe island later this month. We will be there for a few days and then going to san juan del sur. I have read about car jackings and muggings. Curious as to the validity of the reports. We plan on driving during the day, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Advice appreciated.
If anybody is heading towards Jinotega in the mountains of Nicaragua, go to the small parquet central.
There are some sloths in the trees!
Yes, those slow-moving animals that I only glimpsed from afar on a 4-day amazon canoe trip a few years ago.
Ask the park attendants to identify them for you.
At 8am you can watch them eating, and people say they come down to the ground at dusk.
Beautiful creatures!

Make sure you know the ferry times, as taxistas will rip you off from Rivas to San Jorge. (s/b $1 in shared taxi)
Moyogalpa has 4 different banks with atms, and during an evening power cut, each was pumping out AC, and during one daytime power cut I withdrew money, so no need to bring excessive wads of cash.
Hotelito Aly – upstairs rooms $11, superb view of Concepcion, and gets breeze. Reasonable wifi. Hotelito has a backup generator. But bring your ear muffs.
