Hi everyone,

My friend and I will be in Leon for 3-4 days or so and want to do an overnight volcano hike with Quetzaltrekkers. They have a couple of options: Momotombo, Telica, San Cristobal, El Hoyo (I'm not including the three-day options as we don't have time for them). Any advice as to which would be best? We love scenery and we're pretty fit.

Thanks!

If you will be there around fullmoon I recomend the fullmoon hike to Telica. I did it in July 2008 with my 14 years old son. You won’t have to carry camping gear as you start at 11 p.m and will be at the crater at around 3 a.m. It will be less hot than during daytime, but still hot enough. Bring something against cold wind and rain with you. And don’t wear canvas sneakers, but good trail running shoes or hiking shoes.

El Hoyo is the best. It is a difficult hike, but it is so worth it. Cannot beat sleeping on top of a volcano, looking over Mombotombo and Managua. It is incredible. Then the descent into Laguna Asososca the next day is amazing as well.
