Hi

Can anyone tell me how hot it is in May in Granada? It's 35 there now - will it stay at this level next month too? I thought May was the start of rainy season.

Also, how far is a block? In terms of miles/meters/minutes walking - anything so that I can't understand the measure slightly better.

Thanks

Well rain season is supposed to be from July to late October, however weather is always unpredictable. Let's see what happens this year. Nicaragua is one of the hottest places in Central America. However, Granada is not as hot as the Leon or North Nicaragua.

A block is 100 meters long.

April is the hottest month. I'd expect it to be back to the high 20ºs to low 30ºs by May. The rains start out slowly in May. Don't expect monsoons. Even when it does rain heavy, the duration is short and usually in the evening. A block is no more than a one minute walk but, as long as 1/2 hour or more depending on who you stop to talk to, or how interested you are in culture.

Just a little clarification of robertiko´s post. He mentions that Leon and "North Nicaragua" are hotter regions. Leon and Chinandega, known in Nicaragua as "el oriente" (west) are certainly the hottest parts of the country. Chinandega is also, indeed, north on Leon. However, the regions known as "el norte" are the mountainous, and much cooler areas like Matagalpa, Esteli, Nueva Segovia, etc.

I have never heard of Leon/Chinandega called "el oriente", which means "east" not west. Of course, names are not necessarily accurate in Nicaragua with San Juan del Sur being actually north of what still exists of San Juan del Norte.

Oops, I meant el "occidente," thanks for pointing that out Bwiley. Chinandega and Leon are often referred to as el occidente, while el Norte is reserved for the mountainous regions inland.
