How are the temperatures in Laguna de Apoyo for swimming in June? I live in Florida and don't have much tolerance for swimming in chilly water, but I love to swim in lakes. How will Apoyo work out for me?

P.S. Anyone ever stay at La Abuela on Laguna de Apoyo? If so, how was it?

The surface water in the Laguna is nice and warm all year round, even though the lake is pretty spectacularly deep. So no worries there.
I've never spent the night at La Abuela, but I've seen the cabins and they do look nice. They go for 60-65 USD, if I'm not mistaken. I've made quite a few day trips there - they pretty much force you to have lunch there to use their deck and deck chairs and other facilities, which would be fair enough - if only the food was good. But it's not. The overpriced, fat-soaked, loveless pea-sized portions they serve have got so bad that I stopped going. It's pointless.

And that's a shame because I'd really give my tourist or expat euro to local businesspeople rather than other expats, but what can you do.

Update on the quality of the food at La Abuela (see my previous post above):
I'm more than happy to report that they seem to have got their act together and are now actually serving good meals. Maybe I was just unlucky last year and picked a few 'off' days but I've been back since (because it still is by far the nicest place to swim and hang out at the laguna imo) and the service has been very good the last imes I went, and so was the food.
So I'm once again very happy to spend my córdobas at a locally owned and run place.
