Hey. I'm trying to plan costs for a month (June-July) in Nicaragua on the southern pacific coast, likely whichever beach north or south of SJDS seems best when I arrive. Plan is to scope out options and stay out as I am going to be working (just from laptop) and surf.

I have searched on the forum but can't find this info. LP guidebook says $10+ per day for surfboard rental which seems extortionate (coming from Venezuela). If I am renting for a month I imagine there are discounts --anyone have any ideas? Other option is to buy, probably secondhand and sell on. Haven't surfed at all in central but sounds like there is a big scene-is it like Europe/Aus where there are racks of secondhand re-patched semi-guns that people bought and coudn't ride and sold on? Or some selection? I am kind of asuming it is like Byron Bay for example where you just turn up and buy the tent and board of the next guy/girl leaving and sell both on when you leave...?

I would also consider investing in soemthing if there is a decent local shaper with good prices. But I am loaded down with stuff already.

Man I am excited, hence the post on something that having prior knowledge of will in no way change my plans or give me info that I couldn't find out on arrival...

Any other tips on beaches or whatever appreciated. I am ruling out Costa Rica due to price difference and time constraints.

Can't wait

$10 day would be cheap, at least compared to Costa Rica, but, there are far more diverse surf scenes, where boards rent for $20 day. IN CR, a good board all depends on what you want, long, short etc, but $200 is about average...

Did you try contacting many surf schools, surf lodges and surf shops around the SJDS area? There are over a dozen. Just Google, and Email them for the going price per day, or to purchase.

Dont compare economies on a different continent to other continents...nothing is apples and apples. Considering Nica is a haven for surfers from North America, there are no shortage of boards, and quality ones at that...

Yeah I had a look but haven´t seen any prices on longer rentals. Will obviously just buy if $200 is a possibility! Why would you even rent if ten sessions can get you your own?

Yeah I didn´t mean the economies would be the same in Oz and Nica- but perhaps the dynamic might be. Like I wrote. Dick.

The only reason not to buy and then sell is if time is limited, you may not be able to sell at a good price...
