Has anybody spent the night in Reserva Natural Volcan Mombacho? It seems like it could be a cool experience, but I'd like to hear from somebody who's done it! Thanks!!

Hi,
I stayed there for a night it it was great. It was 3 years ago so could be different now though?
We booked 2 beds up there the night before from our hostel in Granada (it was right around Xmas) and we were the travellers there. From what I remember, we took a taxi to the base station and there's a truck that goes up to the top hut twice a day. We took the afternoon truck, walked around, they served us dinner and a guide took us on a night hike around the crater for about 45 min to an hour. We came back and watched a soap opera and had a laugh with some of the girls working there in the lounge and went to sleep. They served us breakfast and we walked around a bit more and took the morning truck down and hailed a bus towards Rivas.

So generally, I highly recommend a night on Mombacho. The only other cloud forest I've been to was Monteverde in CR and I found that to be fairly touristed. So to have a volcano top cloud forest all to ourselves was far superior in my mind, nevermind the views to the pacific and the lake. It get's chilly so bring some warm clothes, and also a book or a deck of cards etc. And check out the tunnel on the walk around the crater. Enjoy!
