I will be flying into Managua 9-14, flight lands about 840 pm. I was wanting to get to Granada that same night. Any suggestions on best means of travel, also a good safe place to stay reasonably economical.
Take a taxi. There is a list of rooms in the LP book or any of the others. Choose your price range.

I never took this route
but if I remember correctly there is last shuttle at 10pm- buy Paxeos, which I read good recommendations.
We stayed at La Siesta- a small family place, not the cheapest but on the more cheaper than expensive side...
An airport taxi will be $40 or so. They will start higher so you will have to bargain. You can talk to your fellow passengers and maybe find someone to share the ride with.
How much is reasonably economical ? That means different things to different people.

Thanks guys. Reasonable to me is around 30 us? Is 40 for cab per person or can 2 travel for that price?
Jeff, Almost universally, at least in the Americas, taxis can carry up to 4. We got a taxi from the airport to Granada for $35US. We found taxis to be a great way to travel in Nicaragua if you have two or more people.
$40 is for the taxi. We have paid $30-35 but that was during the day. Street taxis are cheaper too but at night most people don't feel comfortable walking out to the street and so they take the airport taxi.
We like Hostal Hamacas near La Merced (shared bathroom, under $20). I heard very good things about Hospedaje San Jorge in the market, cheap and rooms with private bathroom. Some people don't like walking in the market area at night though but if you feel uncomfortable at night it would only be a very short taxi ride from the central park. Also check out Oasis (I believe around $30). Casa del Agua is supposed to be great but a bit more ($38 for the standard double). Also check out Entre Amigos ($20-24) and El Momento ($18 to $30).
