Hola. Can anyone tell me something about Playas Los Cardones? I've been considering working at the Los Cardones Surf Lodge for a month this summer but I'm having trouble finding information about the area. What is the nearest town and what is it like? I hear the surf is generally pretty empty and May is a good month for waves. What type of people generally come to this place? Thanks!!

The nearest proper town would be Managua, about 1.5 hours drive away. Other, smaller places fairly close by are San Rafael del Sur, Pochomil and Masachapa. Los Cardones sits near a village called San Diego, a bit further up north from Pochomil. You get there over a 15 km or so dust road that turns off the Managua-Pochomil highway.
It's a pretty place owned by a Franch woman, I believe, and now managed by a very nice Italian couple. Not sure about the long-stay crowd there, I've only ever been on day trips at the weekends - where your typical clients would be US and European diplomatic and NGO staff (with their kids) daytripping from Managua.
