This is a 3 part question:

A. What pain meds are available in pharmacies in Honduras and Nicaragua? Are meds stronger than codeine available widely or only in pharmacies attached to large hospitals?
B. Is a prescription for pain meds (i.e. oxycodone) needed in Honduras and Nicaragua? And if so can and will the pharmacist write one without too much trouble?
C. If one must go to a doctor and they know which med they need then would a doctor be likely to just write you a prescription???

Side notes>>> I will not be able to bring meds from home. My spanish is good. I am looking for somewhat specific responses.

Let the lynching begin (I'm sure)

Thank for all responses

In general it's not a problem to get medication without a prescription in pharmacies in Nicaragua. But they might make an exception for drugs like Oxycodone. And I don't no if it's available.
I don't know about the situation in Honduras, but I think it's simular.

The only place I ever was asked for a prescription was in Leon, and that was for a antibiotic. Anywhere else they really didn't care. We took our pain pills with us from the US, just keep them in the pres. bottle. If your looking for more then that, I have been told that gringos can get just about anything!

Beverages containing various concentrations of ethanol are available for treatment of Weltschmerz at cantinas everywhere.

Well thanks to all for your input. I kind of figured that while it may be available usually only pharmacies near or connected to hospitals would have it. (although in retospect that wouldn't entirely make sense as obviously people who live away from hospitals have pain issues also)
"The only place I ever was asked for a prescription was in Leon, and that was for a antibiotic." -- That's kind of funny as that's practicaly the last thing that I'd expect them to require a prescription for.

I took 18 hr at the universitat. Very rusty, spanish is better despite no formal training.
But I find german handy to foil hucksters. I babble some irrelevant sentence, leaving them puzzled. "Ah! Ein kleine hund! Mochten sie etwas to essen? or the haircut phrase.
