Hi
I'll be arriving in Moyogalapa tomorrow round noon and am looking for a nice quiet place (under $50) for a night or so from which to get my bearings.

I may stay on the Island a week or more and, as this is a completely unplanned trip, I don't have a sense of the place yet. Any current advice on accommodation around the island welcome. Big wildlife fan - not a party guy.

Cheers
David

My friend runs a hostel there called yogi's. Less than half the cost of your budget
When you get off the ferry go straight and turn right at the pizza place. Its a couple blocks up.

They also own a motorcycle rental place too, so if you arent sure where to go, look for the 2 girls on scooters advertising their rentals when you step off the ferry. They are always there.

Thanks for that. Yogi's appears to have good write-ups. I'll give it a go.

Soma is a very good place in Moyogalpa..well within that budget too.

They also work with a great guide (Javier) for wildlife/volcano climbing trips...

One of my favourite places in CA.......

David,
We just left Ometepe Island and absolutely enjoyed our 4 night visit - we were well prepared for our visit with the help of Linda and stayed at her guest house on the beach in Santa Cruz. There is alot to do nearby - we hiked to the crater lake with Tony and felt the magic... of the island.
They were very helpful offering us coconuts, passion fruit juice, organic produce from their gardens and knew where to buy fresh coconut bread, organic chocolate, and unique amber jewelry too.
Try some freshly harvested pinto beans and Linda's coconut flan - delicious!
We loved that we had a kitchen too so we could take advantage of the garden herbs for teas, breakfasts and cocktails on the beach ! We took a sunset horseback ride on the beach, visited the nearby mineral springs, kayaked in the river with amazing lush greenery flocks of birds, monkeys and caiman too.
Contact Linda for information lindaometepe@yahoo.com
Tony also has a newly built lake cabin in Balgue for rent - cool with large trees all around and a porch to hang out.
We are already missing the unique friendly laid back atmosphere of Ometepe but we are off surfing at Popoyo and exploring other areas of Nicaragua - though hope someday to return to the magical island!
Enjoy Annia and G.
