Hi all!

I may be heading to Nica in late May or early June this year...I realize the rainy season has begun but I remember reading somewhere last year that this was the best time to visit the Guasacate/Gigante area...

Now, of course, I can't find where I read that...am I completely off the mark?

I was in CR & Nica for a month last late April/early May and saw no rain in Nica but do remember a huge storm hit after I left the country...I also spent so much time on Little Corn that I decided to skip the Pacific side...no regrets...but I'd like to go this year...I would only have 2 weeks and would stay in the range of
Las Salinas - Guasacate - Gigante...

Also, does anyone have suggestions on low-key, simple lodging? Surf camps offer mostly packages w/stuff I don't need...I don't care for Hotel Brio's atmosphere...and am considering Hotel Toro Surf (name changed a little) and La Tica 2...I'm a single woman looking for clean, tranquillo room...shared bath ok...maybe a hammock to relax in...and food near by...love tipico cooking...

Thanks in advance...

I'd be very surprised if you read that the best time to visit those areas would be end of May/beginning of June because you will definitely get rain. The rainy season on the Pac coast usually starts around mid-May (so last time you visited would have been the peak of the dry season), with a few days or even weeks of sporadic night or afternoon rains before the really heavy downpours set in in June. But it may also be dry up until the end of May. That said, you will get sun too, especially in the mornings, but June and Sept/October are generally the months with the heaviest rains. But then again, the climate's been pretty funny this year, so who knows.

On the plus side, there a fewer people, there is little wind, and, best of all, there is very little dust. On the down side, the water may be dirty in places, especially where there are rivers pouring into the sea, and you may get bored during longer rainy spells. I've never been to Gigante in the rainy season, but with all the houses there, waste waters and dirt may be an issue. But I have little time for Gigante anyway.
I wouldn't let the weather stop me from going. Try perhaps to push your stay into May as much as you can, and leave fewer days for June.

As for acommodation, I'm afraid I can't help. I've only ever been to these beaches on day trips.
