Dear kunmingirl, once again, thanks for your post and here is my update on Tex-Mex restaurants in Grenada. My friends and I stayed in Granada for five days and visited Tequila Vallarta and La Merienda. Just like you said, Vallarta is good but expensive. None the less, it isn’t tex-mex, Mexican food and Tex-Mex are way different in flavor and preparation. La Merienda is cheaper and indeed has that unique south of the boarder flavor that I love so much! It was like having a bit of home in Granada!!!
We went everyday for either lunch or dinner. My boyfriend is vegetarian and he fell in love with their tofu and vegetable dishes. If you ask for beer, they will tell you they do not sell any liquor, but they will bring you, free of charge, a fruity cocktail they call agua fresca.
If you go back to Grenada, you should visit this place. I just hope you don't mind listening to Mexican and/or american country music while eating.

you are so right! i am so unused to people having any real experience with the varieties of mexican food that i just let that detail slip. glad you enjoyed the food! here at home (israel) we just had black bean tostadas at home tonight...a good approximation, but not the real deal....
ditto #5! who goes to nicaragua to try mexican food? is this a joke? i just got back to nicaragua today and i am going to have one of my favorites, nacatamale, real food from nicaragua.

This is the point at which I realized I will definitely not be visiting this restaurant.
