Given the current situation, is it safe to travel to leon from the airport in the night (our flight lands at 8:00pm on 8 dec) ?

Also, based on our guide books and TT forum contributions I have worked out this itinereary (we are travelling with 2 children) for our dec trip. Thanks in advance for any comments/ suggestions.

Leon - 4 nights (3 days)
La laguna Apoyo 2 nights (1.5 days)
Isla Ometepe 3 nights (2 . 5 days)
Granada 4 nights (3.5 -- 4 days)
7 nights - beach (Not SJDS)

Thanks

If it were me I'd stay the the night a go in the morning. Especially with 2 kids after a long flight.

The "current situation" has all but died down, and if anything, is limited to a few roundabouts in the centre of Managua, notably Metrocentro. Have Paxeos pick you up, no sweat at all.
Or do as like2travel suggests and stay the night at the Best Western Las Mercedes across the airport. But just because it may be easier on the kids (and adults), not because it's in any way unsafe to go to Leon. Your flight may very well be delayed so you may want to do without those extra 1.5 hrs of taxi ride that late at night, and just relax at a decent hotel as you get into Nicaragua.

Thank you all very much. The reason we prefer to go straight to Leon is that after a long flight from London via Madrid and San Jose on that dreaded Iberia we do not want to get up in managua and travel again.
