Hey everyone! We ll be going from Leon to Rivas (and then to Ometepe). I read in this forum that you need to change bus terminal from where you arrive in Managua to where you take the bus to Rivas, but someone was saying that if you take the big bus in Leon ( no minibuses) they drop you off at Mercado Oriental and that from there you can take the bus to Rivas. Has anyone done this recently? Or if not do you know which terminal you arrive at in Managua and which one is for the buses to Rivas?
Thanks!

Hi meq - there's one line of the leave-when-full microbuses from León that goes to the UCA bus station. You would be better off taking this because it's closer to Mercado Huembes where buses leave for Rivas. All other León buses and mini-vans (that I'm aware of) go to Mercado Israel Lewites-Bóer, which is further west in Managua and would require a longer taxi ride. I haven't heard of buses going to Oriental, and UCA would be closer to Huembes and definitely less chaotic. Enjoy Ometepe; it's a magical place!

#1 is right. I've taken microbuses from Leon both to UCA and to the Isreal Lewites bus station further out. The "leave when full" part is a nonissue, because they fill up incredibly fast. Of course there are shuttles that operate from Leon to Managua, costing a lot more than any kind of buses. The shuttles will drop you wherever you want.

Thanks everyone! So that's what we did. We took a minibus from Leon bus station to UCA in Managua (51C) and from there a taxi ( we paid 45C per person, it shouldn't be more than 60C according to a local) to Huembes where there was a bus to Rivas (61C). There are buses going to San Jorge as well but the last one was at 15.00 and we got there after, but from Rivas we took a taxi to San Jorge for 25C. Thanks!
