La Casa de los Mejia Godoy is easy to get to in a taxi.
Get the hotel to get you a taxi and to pick you up later.
It's safe but don't go taking a midnight stroll!

MANAGUA NIGHTLIFE

La Casa de los Mejia Godoy has moved since all the guidebooks came out - it is now across the road from the Crowne Plaza hotel, near the Tica Bus station.

This area is NOT safe to walk around at night (many locals don't even walk around there in the day). Make sure your taxi drops you off at the door and when you are leaving, get the bouncer to find a cab for you - no doubt some regular drivers will be hanging around out the front and he will know who is trustworthy.

It's about a 10 or 15 minute ride between the hostel and the venue - you will maybe pay US$1 per person to get there, a bit more to get back.

I dobn't know how late they are open, but the music starts around 10. If you just drop your bags at the hostel and head out, the kitchen should still be serving meals. If it isn't, you can get snacks all night.

In fact walking around any part of Managua at night is NOT recommended.

You need to check if the brothers are playing as they don't play every night, and I know from experience when I've had friends in town that it's almost impossible to get hold of the venue by telephone!
Taxi drivers outside clubs in Managua I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw!!

You may end up better off paying for a night tour with someone to pick you up at the airport and drive you around, about US$50 I think. Then no need to worry!

come on, blog. I think you may be overstating the case a little here.

Altamira, Los Robles, Zona Hippo's and the busier parts of the Zona Rosa are all fine to walk around at night, provided you take the usual precautions. sure, there are no guarantees, but that goes for pretty much the entire world... walking between the backpackers hostel and metrocentro is not what I would call dodgy either.

i think we can be assume that if someone's staying in a backpacker hostel, they're not about to shell out $50 for a chauffeur for the night... let's be realistic! I've never had a problem with the taxi drivers that bouncers at clubs have organized for me, I guess because they are known to the business and know that if they try something funny, it will be easy to identify them. And let's not be paranoid here, either - most businesses have a vested interest in making sure their customers get home in one piece with their wallets intact.

You definitely should not have any safety issues going to la Casa de los Mejia Godoy. I take cabs daily, always using precaution, and have never had a problem. If you arrange a cab through your hotel and get the cabbie's number to call for a pick up your chances of a problem are almost nill, at least in terms of taxi drivers and their buddies robbing passengers.

If the Mejia Godoy brothers aren't playing, whoever else is should be a good show, as they get the top Nica artists (usually with a testimonial, trova, typical, etc style). Another good place for music is Ruta Maya, not too far from la Casa de los Mejia Godoy. They also have food. There are also a lot of places to go out much closer to your hostel and in safer areas, though I can't think of any typical music venues in los robles/reparto san juan/zona hipa/altamira. Asados el Gueguense (Altamira, 5 min south of your hotel in a taxi) has great live music, not as famous as la Casa de los Mejia Godoy, but very enjoyable and really delicious food.

Have fun, be safe and don't be too worried... 1.5 million people (including a decent amount of foreigners, and a lot more less well off people without the resources to take cabs at night) live in Managua and most of them survive each night. (I know the tone of the poster was not of fear, but I think it should be stated that Managua is not so bad!)

I'm giving the poster the safest option.
I live in Managua and walk around all the time!
But tourists stand out like a sore thumb and as is evidenced by numerous postings on this board, often do stupid things!
Fact is taxi drivers at night off thestreet or outside clubs in Managua are not 'reliable' people!

I agree with the above poster best option is to get the hotel to get you a cab and pick you up later, I also like Asados el Gueguense.
