I´m looking to stay in Leon for several months, and I would prefer to find an apartment or house to rent rather than continue staying in my hostel.

I´ve scoured the internet and asked around a bit, but no one seems to have much advice for me, other than pointing me toward hostels.

Is this a totally fruitless search?

Thanks for your help, feel free to email me if you have information that should not be put on such a public forum.

A general rule is that any place advertised on the internet is going to be a lot more since it is targeting richer foreigners. You have obviously looked at local newspaper ads. What can take a tad longer...but be cheaper in the long run: First find the neighborhood you feel good about. I'd start asking at local tiendas or restaurants that cater mainly to locals. They know the area gossip. The local hair dresser shop is also a good spot.
