Stayed at Hostel Oasis on thanksgiving day and the day after. I must say, it is one of the nicest, most relaxing, fun places I have ever stayed at. It was great for relaxing at the end of our trip. The place was super-clean, the staff was very friendly, and would suffer though terrible gringo español with a smile. The place was secure, and the other guests were great. Free internet, free phone calls, awesome hammocks, and a pleasant garden/courtyard in the middle. They also sell toña and bottled water for those who are too lazy to go to the market, which is literally 50 feet down the street.

Check out the comedor down the street, out the door to the left, across from the bank. Better gallo pinto than the hostel. But Oasis' pancakes are awesome.

Prices were $8US for dorm, 19 for double, 30 something for triple w/ac, etc, etc.

**if anyone thinks I am advertising or something, you can $#@3 off. Just an honest review.

Since you have a history on this TT prior to the trip, and have offered other posters your opinion on other venues and matters, we know its a legit post.

Glad you enjoyed Nicaragua.

i stayed there a few years back when they first opened, on my first trip and agree with everything in your post. the second time i was down there two years ago, they were alwys full and couldn't get a room as i don't do the dorm scene anymore. the older i get, the more i enjoy a full nights sleep. i also had breakfast at the same place you mentioned that is down the street. when eating gallo pinto, i like mine as they eat it in costa rica and always carry a bottle of salsa inglesa with me as it turns the blandness into something delicious. thanks for posting, brings back some fond memeories.

Thank you so much for posting this review. I am headed to Nicaragua this Saturday and will be staying at Hotel Oasis the first 2 nights, and 2 more nights after my Ometepe visit (as long as it isn't full!). You really got me even more excited about my trip! Yay!!! I can't wait!
