Hola a todo/as!
shortly after Xmas our itinerary will bring us back from the Corn Islands to Managua (before we will have spent 3 weeks in Mexico already):
Right now it foresees:
x Airport Managua => shuttle to Granada directly
x OPEN: 2 full days in Granada
x 3 full days on Ometepe
x OPEN: 2-3 days Leon OR Esteli OR elsewhere
x 3 days near San Juan del Sur (Playa Maderas), sunsurfsandsea-donothing
x 1 full day bus travel from Rivas to San Jose (Costa Rica), 1 night in San Jose (would love to avoid)
x next day: flight home from San Jose
My questions to people who have been there recently:
A)
I am wondering if Granada and Leon are quite similar, and (if yes) which one to drop.
If not similar, do we need to see both or only one of them? (not only city counts, but surroundings)
(We are backpacking, and not so much into mainstream tourism stuff)
I am tending to skip Leon.
B)
Given the limited time, is it worth venturing up north and spend a few days around Esteli?
If yes, which one to drop: Granada or Leon?
Any other option up north which is not too time-consuming, leaving Ometepe?
I am tending to go for some eco-lodge thing around Esteli
C)
Any other itinerary suggestions? (always trying to avoid Managua overnight)
Open to any great idea ... we would love to get a MAX on variety of Nica and see many different things!
D)
Wild Card!
Any location on the Costa Rica coast up north-west which could serve for 2 nights, before going directly to the airport in San Jose (with shuttle)? Any location "better" than San Juan del Sur?
Muchas!
:)
Saludos!
Ingo
