Hello~

I'm traveling in March to CR (Santa Teresa area) and being so close to Nicaragua, I must go see! I may have 4 days or more to explore Nic., returning to CR. Also - any fabulous places in CR I must visit?

Best way to get from Northern CR to Nic? Bus, Plane? Cost?

Please advise as to which areas in Southern Nic would be great to visit. I love adventure and I want off the beaten path. No ex-pat communities. Name of towns, name of hotels you'd recommend?

Thank you!

You are going to find that S.Teresa to the Nica border is actually a hell of a lot further than it looks on the map- especially when you factor in the ferry. Bus is the way to go, but southern Nica off the beaten path isn't very inspiring. Most head to San Juan Del Sur (loved by some, hated by many) or for a city break where you can expect plenty of ex-pats and visitors.
Dip into a guide book and see if anything presses your buttons, but you may find the journey outweighs the pleasures.

I would suggest a ride down the Rio San Juan. Take the public panga down to El Castillo and return. maybe a nite in Sabello. I believe Sn carlos is the town at the end of the river where you would start. There are also the Solomentine Islands right there that are artist islands and they have some accomodations. That's the off the beaten track places. The rest are on the Pacific, several beaches going up toward San juan del Sur that may be better the SJDS itself.
