I'm also interested to know how things are following the earth quake. I'm heading to Nicaragua on Saturday and am just curious how much damage there is in Managua and Granada. I've been unable to get in contact with my hotel in Managua, and am wondering if it is because there have been power/internet outages or anything?

Anyone there who can shed some light on it?

I am currently sitting in Managua as I type and there has not been one tremor. Last week, Thursday through Sunday was literally rocking every hour and the reports say that there were over 1000 shakes since the big one on Thursday. The government has put Nica on red alert for the capitol because they are afraid that an even bigger quake should be coming just as it had back in'72 and the entire Capitol was knocked to the ground. There are some buildings and homes that have been damaged but mostly to old colonial homes that are not well built or otherwise badly maintained. There is also an alert out for Momotombo Volcano. Due to all of this activity some say that there may be a threat soon with this volcano.

As I mentioned earlier, things are moving as normal. There is definitely fear in the air and some are waiting for the worst but from my point of view, its all okay. Internet, roads, transport, phones, everything is working. Again a few homes and old structures have been damaged but that is it. I wouldn't worry about it.
