Hi, Im in San Juan del Sur at the moment and Im finding the heat a bit of a problem even though theres a strong breeze and its only 33C. Im thinking of going to Matagalpa and maybe Jinotega to avoid the heat, humidity and do a bit of trekking. Ive been to Monteverde in CR already and really enjoyed it and am considering Chirripo too. I have three weeks left, any suggestions for alternatives?

Thanks

Nicaragua in the southern half is HOT. Ometepe does get a lake breeze from the east, and it has a lot of shade trees.

The NW of CR is similar to Nica, arid lowlands and farms, the coast is always hot.

The mountains are cooler, so Arenal area, Monteverde Cloudforest, Orosi and the Central Valley are always pleasant, even the capital is nice its at 3000ft above sea level, San Jose is always a nice breeze, night is perfect..

Chirrpo, San Isidro, Rivas, San Vito are rather pleasant....

From where are you leaving in three weeks? I would head in the direction of that region.

It's a bit of a trek but what about Panama? in particular Boquete. We were struggling with the heat in CA and finding this beautiful town not that far from the border with Costa rica was a god-send.We were able to walk around in the day with no hassles from the sun.

Head for the hills dude.

Hi Lincoln, just checked that out and it looks nice so you may have influenced my holiday for the better :-) Chirippo mabe the next stop with Boquete afterwards. Do you know if its green all year round, half the leaves have fallen everywhere I've been on the pacific side and I would like to see some greenery. Thanks for your suggestions people :-) the sun has gone down so I can think once again!

Chirripo is amazing. I lived on the Nicoya peninsula for a winter and my hike up Chirripo is my most memorable experience during my time in Costa Rica. It's nice to see more than the beaches in such a beautiful country. Do it!

Boquete is green year around. Bring a sweater, it gets cold at night
