Hi,

My friend and I are arriving Friday at 8 pm at the Managua airport and plan to stay at the Backpackers Inn. I know we can sign up for the hostel's airport shuttle option for $10 each, but before I do that, was just wondering if it would be cheaper for the two of us to just take an airport taxi. I read someone where it might just be $7 for the two. Are they trustworthy? Would I have to bargain hard to get that price?

Thanks again.

Taxi is cheaper.
Get a licensed one, red bordered plates outside the airport.
Cheaper in the street but not as safe!
Nicaraguans generally don't like bargaining after they suggest a price you offer a lower price, they agree or don't, after that they find it a little insulting!
Especially off more wealthy 'Westerners'!
Remember a dollar means more to them than it does to you!!

$10 each is not that bad, specially if someone is there for you. It might be probably just 2 or 3 dollars more than a taxi, which to me are meaningless compared to the benefit. If you still want to check other options try Paxeos, they will probably take you there for a good price.

I was talking about the price athingdivine mentioned the hostal was charging .Since you recommended an airport taxi, the fare would be, at least $17 which is what they take you for to the Intercontinental in Metrocentro (after bargaining, of course), only 1 block away from Backpackers Inn, so for the comfort and peace of mind of knowing there is somebody waiting for you, extra 2 or 3 dollars is meaningless. If they take a taxi across the street from the airport it will be cheaper, but i´d advise against it.
