Any reasonably decent snorkelling on the Pacific Side?

Hi. We are in Nicaragua for 18 days in December. I love snorkelling and Little Corn appears the place to be however my partner is balking at flying all the way there when we will be focusing on the Pacific Side going from Leon to Granada to Omtepe and perhaps San Juan Sur (although I think a secret fear of sharks and jelly fish might be behind the 'why bother' line ;>)

I know the Pacific has only rock reefs and can get choppy however December should be a tad calmer in terms of waters. Any recommendations as to snorkelling on that side or should I leave my gear at home?

Actually December is rougher, making it a hey day for surfers, as off shore winds blow hard, and create huge barrel waves ideal for surfing. Even without the off shore winds and low tides, dark sand and little reflection means terrible conditions, add to this rocks, and its just a no go, unless a shallow tide pool protected from the surf line...there may be some coves tours take people too....not much to see anyway...the Pacific in general all up n down the Pacific coast of CR is not for snorkeling...

Why would you fly to Corn Islands to snorkel, its not the best either from what I hear. Bay Islands, Roatan and Utila is the place to snorkel/dive, on the second longest reef in the world...

The Corn Islands (Little Corn) have good snorkeling. Even from the shore it's not bad. Not the best but pretty good. This from one who is pretty fussy. I don't think there is much on the Pacific Coast.

its still rough in december. Not terribly so, but enough to keep it from being a snorkeling paradise. I dont know of any decent places on the pacific side. especially if you are experienced, and have seen better places.

Actually, you can snorkel to the reef from Big Corn Island without a problem and it is pretty nice. There is also a lot of snorkeling closer to shore which is not bad at all. This is found mostly on the north end of Big Corn. I am more familiar with this then Little Corn. There are several places that will take you out either on a boat or from shore. I wouldn't worry about sharks and jellyfish. The jelly fish seem to come in waves. You have them for a couple of days and then they are totally gone. I have never seen a shark.
