La Ceiba, Honduras AT a modest clinic down a dirt road, there are rocking chairs on the front porch and a hyperbaric chamber in the front room where Dr. Elmer Mejía treats deep-sea lobster divers who arrive paralyzed but walk out days later.

Courtly in manner and crisply dressed despite the tropical heat, Dr. Mejía could pass for an accountant in a suburban office park. But his appearance masks a fierce sense of mission. He calls what is happening to his impoverished patients…

House Rental

Hey All,

I'm living in Honduras and have some friends coming down for a holiday in November. Does anyone know of a great house to rent (we are five or six)??? I also heard something about renting an island (not Sandy Cay off Utilia), anyone know anything about this?

Many thanks!!

I've been planning a trip to Roatan island from October 7-22, it seems like the perfect mix of scuba, inexpensive cost and laid-back atmosphere. But now I see that October is the start of the rainy season. Can anyone who has been there in October tell me how bad it can get? I'd be ok with a few days of rain in the 2 weeks but if it's the entire time it'll pretty much ruin a scuba trip.

Thanks!

A group of us are planning to go on the La Ruta 4-day excursion to La Mosquitia during our trip in October. We have to choose between the coast or rainforest. The rainforest trip goes to Rio Platano and Las Marias. The Coast trip goes to Raista and Belen. Which is better/more unique??? I'm leaning towards rainforest since we'll be on the islands the rest of the trip, but I don't have any clue which might be better. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi there,

I have a few questions. My husband and I are trying to decide whether to go to Costa Rica or Honduras for the week between Christmas and New Years. My vote is Honduras because I think it will be more of a cultural experience and cheaper. I've been looking on the LP site and it seems that we would want to go to Copan, Gracias and Parque Nacional Jeannette Kawas. Is it really necessary to go to PNJK and Utila or another beach? It seems like everything to see is in the north, is…

Hi, having spent quite a few months in Esteli in the last few years I'd like to know how Danli compares to it in the following aspects:
1- Size, Esteli has about 100,000 and built in a way that make the important parts walkable in distance.
2-Restaurants and teraces , Esteli has very few decent restaurants and NO places where you can sit at a sidewalk terace to enjoy a beer and watch people stroll by.
All drinking joints are inside buildings full of smoke and blasting loud music.
3- Availability…

Hello fellow travellers
Currently enjoying kicking back in Comayagua - I really like this town.
Went in search of the Tica agency today, to book a seat to Leon. The address given on the Tica website isn´t so useful, as the street name does not show up on any maps, and the few locals I asked also struggled to ascertain exact location, but with a general area to search, I walked up and down streets until I found what I was looking for.
Address on website:
Tienda Baby House
Calle del Comercia (frente a…

I met a traveler who told me he found a Mammut outlet store (or at least a place that sells Mammut packs) somewhere in San Pedro Sula. I would love to trade my pack for a Mammut. I assume this place is in the City Mall, but can find nothing on the internet. I´m also hoping to pick up some camping gear. Any info would me much appreciated.

La Ceiba

How safe is La Ceiba now. I lived and taught school there in 2000? Any good hostels? Thanks, Paul
