Hey Thorntree Crew,

My girlfriend and I are landing in Honduras from Canada for 3 weeks in August. Basically, we're wondering about spending time in both Honduras and Guatemala. Is there enough time to see aspects of both? Should we just focus on one? If so, which is recommended? What are some favorite spots? How is the Pacific Coast of Guatemala compare to the Caribbean Coast of Honduras.

Any recommendations and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks to all that help out.

Rob - from Vancouver.

Hi everybody,

my husband, my sister-in-law (both swiss) and I (catracha, in other words Honduran) are planning to make a trip into La Moskitia with "La Ruta Moskitia". Our planning trip days are from Monday July 13th to Friday the 17th. Until now I'm not sure if I'm coming along, since it is expensive, but my hubby and my sister-in-law are for sure making the trip. We already contacted Jimmy Andino, owner of "La Ruta Moskitia" and had already made a reservation. But even though they're (and…

We’ve just returned from 11 days on Roatan, and I thought I’d share a brief trip report. Of course this is just my opinion, so your mileage may vary.

Accomodation
We stayed at Seagrape Plantation in the West End for the first 8 nights of our trip. At $60/night, I’d say the price is fair for what you get. We were in one of the bungalows overlooking the water. Sure, the A/C is loud, the beds are a bit small and the pillows are lumpy, but the view is sublime, the hammock on your deck is nice…

Any suggestions for a great place to study Spanish with my 13 year-old son? I'm looking for a school experienced in working with his age group and also a place that offers actvities that would interest him while not in class. We've been to Antigua, Guatemala and I'd like to try some place new. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I've heard about a turtle sanctuary near Rais Ta in La Moskitia - Plapaya? However, I can't find out any information about it. Anyone know anything about it? Does it take volunteers? I'd love to spend a few weeks out there.

Cheers

costs

Hi,
I am planning a trip to Central America for June + July of 2010 and am trying to decide between Guatemala and Honduras. Unfortunatly it might come down to whichever is cheaper - - I can't seem to find much info on costs in Honduras, can someone help me out? Also, I will be travelling with my g.f. and we are worried about discrimination/violence since we are a same-sex couple. Obviously it is wise to keep a low profile - but any suggestions on which country is less of a risk? Thanks in…

I'm planning to spend about a month in Central America this June/July. My primary purposes are to learn Spanish, relax, and play outside! I'd like to study Spanish in a smallish, not super-touristy town where I'll be surrounded by natural beauty - I also like mountains!

I've decided to begin my journey in Copan, because it seems to meet these criteria. I'm trying to determine whether to spend two or three weeks there before continuing my journey. After Copan, I'd like to spend a few days…

Hi,
I´ve just found out my debit card has been cloned and someone is withdrawing 1000 Quetzals once or twice a day on it. I´ve only used it a few times in Central America, so I thought I´d pass on the information about where I used it before it was cloned in case it was of any use to anyone.

I used it unsucessfully in the ATM in La Ceiba airport
I used it to swipe the door open and tried it in the Credomatico (?) ATM in Copan
I used it successfully in the BAC ATM in Copan
(I may have got the names…

Hola-
Does anyone know the dates for the La Ceiba Carnaval this year?
How far ahead should one book accommodations?
Any tips or advice for enjoying the festivities for a first-timer?
Thanks!
