What's up with flights between Roatan and La Ceiba. I keep trying Sosa airlines' website, and it's been down for days... are they flying? If so, do they have a website up? How are the other carriers doing? I have read recently that some of the local puddle jumpers are less reliable than Sosa. Thanks for any advice, consolation, or warnings. Admonishments will be taken on a case by case basis.

There are three airlines that make that trip. Islena is the most reliable followed by Atlantic and Sosa. Islena is the only one with a reliable and working website. They are owned by TACA and you can sometimes get a better price thru their website but it can also be more expensive t. I try to use Islena whenever possible. I just had another bad experience with Atlantic last month. Have fun. Mike

you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows

haha, funny story about flying out of Roatan... I was going to take the ferry to La Ceiba and then bus to San Pedro Sula--> Copan. Storms came in and the day before I planned to leave they cancelled the ferry. I was told the day I was leaving the ferry was likely to be canceled and if I wanted a better chance to get off the island I should fly. I figured, "if I'm flying, I may as well go all the way to San Pedro Sula and skip that part of the bus... that way I will get into Copan several hours earlier!". So I got up for a 6 am flight on Atlantic.

Turned out that Atlantic sold plane tickets but somehow forgot to schedule a plane to be there (even though it was a flight that runs every single day). I sat in the airport for 6 hours while every other airline took off and landed and took off and landed. It wasn't the weather... it was rainy off and on, but planes were flying, and it turned out the ferry ran. The biggest annoyance was that instead of telling us the truth about how long it would be they told us the plane would be there "in 10 minutes" over and over the whole morning.

I guess I saved myself sea-sickness since it was rough out there, but my 45 minute flight turned into 7 hours. And I most definitely didn't end up making it to Copan earlier. The other airlines definitely seemed to be more professional on the day I was there...
