Hi
I intend travelling to Honduras and Nicaragua next September and believe it is the wet season. If you were in this area around this time did you find the weather impacted on your travel plans much?

Yes, expect rains in afternoon hope a hurricane is not nearby, odds are good you will get where your going but expect delays, rains cool everything off, and keeps the jungle in bloom....
On the north coast of Honduras/Bay Islands the rainy season usually starts later, like October. You can watch for storms developing here. Happy trails!

I am asking myself a similar question - just that I am planing to go next year in October. Any information and experiences about what it means to travel there in rainy season (I would love to go to La Moskitia) would be highly appreciated!

In response to the most recent post asking about October, I have been in West End the entire month of October and the weather has been rainy for all but maybe 6 or 7 days - that would be 21 or more days or little or no sun and lots of rain. Today is the first time there has been two consecutive sunny days. The prediction for today and the next three days is more rain, so the sun this morning is a surprise and if the weather today turns to rain, it will be no surprise. The rain has often been hard, causing erosion and "gullies" on the beach and making the West End sandy road a muddy mess. The muddy mess has been exacerbated by the construction of sewer pipes so this is may be unusual. Rina also impacted the last few days. In June through August I enjoyed walking the beach areas - this month I have ignored the beach here at West End. The debris, the mud and the stormy days being frankly depressing. In talking with my friends, I have said that anyone scheduling a one or two week vacation in the last two weeks would probably be very disappointed.
I feel like the month of October has been a poster child for the song from 40 or 50 years ago, "Hello muddah, hello faddah, here I am in Camp Granada, camp is very entertaining and they say that we'll have fun if it stops raining." The above written, I still love Roatan and the West End and if the rain stops, the ending of the song, "Muddah, faddah kindly disregard this letter" would be appropriate.
September was not as rainy by my memory, although there were a number of stormy days and for a couple of days the garbage wash up on the beach at Half Moon Bay was really bad. The fishing tournament left West End a depressing level of debris and garbage for four or five days - for those who enjoy a "festival" atmosphere it might have been great but for someone like myself who enjoys tranquility, I would avoid being in West End like the plague during the fishing tournament.
